I haven't been able to verify it from another source yet but I was just reading an article on Digital Music News which I found hysterical. Apparently DJ Dangermouse (of The Grey Album fame) and Sparklehorse have released a new album titled 'Dark Night of the Soul'. The trick is that the CD (R) is blank - they are having a dispute with their record label (EMI) and cannot release the music. The music however is available on the net, so all consumers are getting are the liner notes with a 100 page booklet of photos and the instructions to 'Use It As You Will'.
Too funny - when will these labels learn?

Welcome to the OCA Research Review weblog.
Here I will be posting comments on the research I have been doing for my PhD thesis as well as any interesting articles or websites I have accessed. My main area of research at the moment relates to the Internet and the regulation of digital music, however I read widely on many issues relating to cyberspace and hope to refer to these as they arise. My thesis is on the state of the internet and the potential for political music to act as an agent for social change.
I also ran the OpenContentAustralia weblog where I listed much of the online material I read each month on cyberlaw but it has been put on hiatus due to work commitments.

No wonder EMI don't make as much money as they would like, they will have to bring forward the release date of the Beatles mono mix cd's to make money this year, and all because Dangermouse used the Beatles for his grey album!
'Dark Night' is VERY good tho!
